Double Take is the new production company founded by filmmaker Tom O'Dell.
Over the past 25 years, Tom has written, produced, directed and edited critically acclaimed documentary features and television series spanning music, history, sport, popular culture and true crime. His work has been produced in collaboration with and acquired by leading international broadcasters and streaming platforms, including Netflix, Disney+, Sky, Discovery, Peacock, Arte, UKTV and ZDF.
Tom cut his teeth on music videos and long-form music titles in the early 2000s, writing, directing and editing feature-length documentaries on artists as diverse as AC/DC, Prince, Captain Beefheart, Leonard Cohen and Iron Maiden. His 2008 documentary Kraftwerk and the Electronic Revolution received critical acclaim and wide festival distribution, and this was followed by celebrated documentaries on the New York City punk scene (Punk Revolution NYC, 2011), The Beatles and the counterculture, Going Underground (2013), named one of the films of the year by Mojo magazine, Duane Allman and The Allman Brothers Band (Song of the South, 2013), Lynyrd Skynyrd (Gone With The Wind, 2015) and a two-part documentary on the tragically short life of guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan (Rise of a Texas Bluesman, 2014 and Lonestar, 2017).
On all of these films, Tom served as producer, writer, director and editor, taking projects from initial concept through to international delivery while managing productions across the United States, Australia, Jamaica, Japan and mainland Europe.
His feature documentary How The Beatles Changed The World (2017) was acquired by Netflix for an exclusive worldwide licence before being distributed to broadcasters and streaming platforms around the world, where it continues to be licensed today. In the same year he also developed the six-part documentary series Wartime Crime for Discovery Networks, UKTV and Viasat, serving as series producer and executive producer while also writing, directing and editing two episodes. More recent productions include the two-part history of the fantasy genre Fantasy Rising (2026), Tom Cruise: The Last Movie Star (2023) and Serena Williams: The Power and the Glory (2024).
Today, Double Take Entertainment builds on that experience to develop and produce ambitious factual, documentary and entertainment programming for audiences worldwide.
